Gumpiesavonturen

Dankzij de aanwijzingen van Gumpie zag ik voor het eerst de kleine vuurtorentjes. Nog nooit opgemerkt en op plaatsen waar ik regelmatig langs liep. Dit vuurtorentje heet een Spoty en in het meervoud; Spoties. Waarom nooit eerder opgemerkt. Gumpie vertelde dat ze meestal net even onder de oppervlakte staan. 's Avonds komen ze langzaam omhoog. Wanneer ze benaderd worden door mensen en ook honden, zakken ze weer de grond in. Er zijn hier in Nederland 3 types met verschillende afmetingen. De langste is ongeveer 10 cm hoog met groene banen. Deze staan meestal aan de rand van het bos. De met rode banen is de kleinste, met afmeting van 8 cm. Je treft ze voornamelijk in het bos. Voor de vuurvliegen zijn ze heel belangrijk.
Tenslotte de laatste, deze is bijna 9 cm lang en heeft blauwe banen. Vaak te vinden langs de kust. Al deze vuurtoren zijn van belang voor insecten en kleine beestjes. Zij schijnen geen felle lichtbundels, maar flikkerende lichtstraaltjes.
In de volgende blog vertel ik meer over de energie winning van deze vuurtorens en waarom de vuurvliegen deze nodig hebben.

Als we op de fiets of aan de wandel gaan, staat Gumpie al te springen om mee te mogen. Een klein potloodje is makkelijk meeste nemen. Hij kijkt voortdurend of er nog spoties in de omgeving zijn. Als er een is 'gespot' sluipen we voorzichtig naar de plek. Soms hebben we geluk om die helemaal te fotograferen. Die foto's plakken we in een speciaal boekje.
Hieronder het resultaat, nog maar 4. Ongetwijfeld zijn er meerdere Spoties in de wereld te vinden.
Wij hopen dat we een uitgebreide collectie kunnen samenstellen.

Spoties

Thanks to Gumpie's directions, I saw the little lighthouses for the first time. Never noticed and in places I passed regularly. This lighthouse is called a Spoty and in the plural; Spoties. Why never noticed before. Gumpie said they are usually just below the surface. In the evening they slowly rise. When approached by people and also dogs, they sink back into the ground. Here in the Netherlands there are 3 types with different dimensions. The longest is about 10 cm high with green stripes. These are usually on the edge of the forest. The one with red strips is the smallest, with a size of 8 cm. You will find them mainly in the forest. They are very important for fireflies.
Finally the last one, this one is almost 9 cm long and has blue stripes. Often found along the coast.
All these lighthouse are of interest to insects and small critters. They do not shine bright beams of light, but flickering rays of light.

Collection

When we go on a bike or a walk, Gumpie is already jumping to join us. A small pencil is easy to take most. He constantly checks whether there are any mockings in the area. If one is 'spotted', we carefully sneak to the spot. Sometimes we are lucky enough to photograph it completely. We paste those photos in a special booklet.
Below the result, only 4. Undoubtedly there are several Spoties in the world.
