Gumpie, deze tekeningen moest ik nog steeds maken voor familie en kennissen. Dat ging wel ten koste van mijn verhaal van Steampunky.

De strandloper is voor mijn vrouw en de vuurtoren voor mijn zwager (zijn verjaardag van december!!!)

De kraaien bijten zijn neus kapot - The crows bite his nose

 'Wat is er voor bijzonders over die wrat van de Eikelbijter te vertellen'. De moswachter pakt zijn katapult. 

'Dit is mijn wapen tegen de kraaien. Ik heb er nog een taak er bij gekregen. De bescherming van Eikelbijter’s neus, doe ik dat niet dan wordt die helemaal ‘opgevreten’.
'Wacht even, wordt de Eikelbijter opgevreten door de kraaien?'
'Niet hij, maar het puntje van zijn neus! 
Eind mei komt de Eikelbijter tot bloei met korstmos op zijn gezicht. Maar vooral op het puntje van zijn neus. En daar hebben de kraaien op gemunt.

Zij pikken het verse korstmos van de Eikelbijter en beschadigen zijn neus vreselijk. 

Met mijn katapult schiet ik kleine steentjes naar de kraaien'. 

Gumpie lacht, 'belangrijke taken heb je!'

At the end of May, the Acorn Biter blossoms with lichen on its face. But especially on the tip of his nose. And that's what the crows are after.

They pick up the fresh lichen from the Acorn Biter and damage his nose terribly. With my slingshot I shoot small stones at the crows'. Gumpie laughs, 'You have important tasks!'

Bomen zijn soms heel agressief - Trees are sometimes very aggressive

 "Wie is dat vreemde figuurtje?'

'Nou, ik ben benieuwd waarom je Steampunky door het bolletjes laat rijden. Ook wordt er op hem geschoten en het stukje hout vormt de aanleiding tot de LangeNeuzen! Waarom dit allemaal, vertel het me allemaal!'

'Dat wordt een lang verhaal. 

'Een deel, want het moet spannend blijven.

In het bos stukjes hout gevonden en als je goed kijkt, kun je daar een gezicht inzien. 

Kijk, dit is mijn eerste schets. Zo ontstond voor mij een serie tekeningen over 'boomwezens' met een eigen karakter. Kenmerk zijn de lange, grote neuzen en hun bijzondere eigenschappen. 

Vandaar de naam LongNose Woodsnuffers.

2 figuren (de moswachter en de stippenstamper) in dit bos vertellen hierover meer. 

'Kun je al iets meer verklappen wat je zoals gaat plaatsen?' 

'Heel weinig. Sommige bomen kunnen agressief zijn als mensen en ook honden te dicht bij hun boomstam komen. Ze hebben een hekel als een hond tegen hun boom plast. Dan laat hij zijn tanden zien!'

'Wacht even voor je verder gaat met rare verhalen... tanden?' 'Ja ik zal het je laten zien. 

Wanneer er een tak afbreekt of afgezaagd is, ontstaat er een wond met een rand. Daar verschijnen zijn tanden. Dat wordt niet getolereerd in ons bos. Mocht deze boom dit toch doen, dan slaat de stippenstamper een paar nagels in die stam. Zo kan hij geen kwaad meer doen. Zie boven een foto zien als bewijs.

Nog een onderwerp, bomen houden contact met elkaar. Ze communiceren met de wortels onder de grond. Je moet dat zien als een internet netwerk. Zo weet het hele bos wat er allemaal gaande is. Iedereen weet nu wie Steampunky is en wat hij van plan is. 

Genoeg er over, komende bloggen zal ik daarover meer laten zien en vertellen'.

Look, this is my first sketch. This is how a series of drawings about 'tree creatures' with its own character arose for me. Characteristic are the long, large noses and their special properties. Hence the name LongNose Woodsnuffers.

'Very little.  Some trees can be aggressive if people and dogs get too close to their trunk. They hate when a dog pees on their tree. Then he shows his teeth!'

 "Wait a minute before you go on with weird stories... teeth?"  'Yes, I'll show you. When a branch breaks off or is sawn off, a wound with an edge is created. That's where his teeth appear. That is not tolerated in our forest. Should this tree nevertheless do this, the polka-dot-stamper will drive a few nails into that trunk. That way he can do no more harm. See above a photo as proof.

Another topic, trees keep in touch with each other. They communicate with the roots underground.  You should see that as an internet network. That way the whole forest knows what's going on. Everyone now knows who Steampunky is and what he's up to.

De Longnose Woodsnuffers en het bolletjesbos - The Longnose Woodsnuffers and the balls Wood

'En nu jouw verhaal over die kubus van oom Viclar '

Weet je, ik heb altijd te doen gehad met de God Atlas.
Hij draagt volgens de legende als straf het hemelgewelf op zijn schouders en wordt in verband gebracht met het Atlasgebergte, Atlantis en de Atlantische Oceaan. Nu, Viclar geloofde ook dat de aarde geen bol maar een draaiende kubus is. 

Voor Atlas zou dat een zegen zijn.... makkelijker in balans te houden'.
'Gumpie, je hebt gelijk, daarom heb ik in het verhaal van de Kubus Valley een kubusglobe geschetst. Deze kwam in tegen op het internet. Hij was dus niet de enige die dit dachten. Op deze manier zijn er 6 continenten'.
'Genoeg over dit onderwerp.

'Jij wil weten waarom ik het Bolletjesbos heb bedacht. In een bos zijn zoveel onderwerpen te vinden, waar je over kunt fantaseren. Zoek op een boomstam waar een stevige tak heeft gezeten. 

De boom herstelt dit vaak met rondom een rand. Hij is gewond en wil beslist niet dat je dit aanraakt. Kom je te dichtbij.... dan laat hij zijn tanden zien.

Ik weet een boom met zo'n wond en elke keer wordt hij agressief. Oplossing; spijkers ingeslagen. 

Denk erom zij houden jou goed in de gaten en communiceren met elkaar via de wortels naar andere bomen. 

Zij hebben een eigen 'internet verbinding'.

Maar het allerbelangrijkste is dat elk boomsoort een eigen boomwezen heeft. Daar wil ik het later over hebben... De LongNosesWoodsnuffers.

And now your story about Uncle Viclar's cube'

You know, I've always felt sorry for the God Atlas.

According to legend, he carries the vault of heaven on his shoulders as a punishment and is associated with the Atlas Mountains, Atlantis and the Atlantic Ocean. Now, Viclar also believed that the earth is not a sphere but a rotating cube. For Atlas that would be a blessing... easier to balance'.

“Gumpie, you're right, that's why I sketched a cube globe in the Cube Valley story. This one came across on the internet.  So he wasn't the only one who thought this. In this way there are 6 continents'.

'You want to know why I came up with the Bolletjesbos. There are so many subjects in a forest that you can fantasize about. Look for a tree trunk where a sturdy branch has been.  The tree often restores this with a border all around. He's hurt and definitely doesn't want you to touch this. If you get too close... he will show his teeth.

I know a tree with a wound like this and it gets aggressive every time. Solution; nails driven in. Remember they keep a close eye on you and communicate with each other through the roots to other trees. They have their own 'internet connection'.

But the most important thing is that each tree species has its own tree creature. I want to talk about that later... The LongNose Woodsnuffers.

Inspiratie voor een platte aarde - Inspiration for a flat earth

'Jaren geleden heb ik een serie zwart/wit tekeningen gemaakt van Muis&Mus. Muis vond een 'dagelijks' voorwerp. Samen filosofeerden ze waarvoor het voorwerp zou hebben gediend. 
Een zilveren hartje, een sleuteltje, een brilletje etc. Heerlijke simpele onderwerpen. In dit geval vond muis een klein radertje.

Mus wist het antwoord; het is een onderdeel van de aarde. De aarde draait in het rond. Binnen in de aarde zit een grote machine met veel radertjes en misschien is er eentje stuk gegaan. Die heb jij nu gevonden.
Muis schrikt. 'Gaat de aarde straks langzaam stil staan. Dan vallen wij er misschien vanaf, of dan komt de zon niet meer overal. Hier altijd de zon en onderaan altijd donker!'

Hieronder de 2 pagina's met de illustraties.

In het 2e verhaal van Mus&Muis 'De Kubusvallei' wordt de kubusglobe van oom Viclar besproken. Die vertelt dat de wereld uit een kubus bestaat, met 6 werelden. Hieronder een illustratie uit het verhaal.

In het verhaal van Punky heb ik een variatie aangebracht, 'hij denkt dat de wereld plat is'.
Gumpie, 'Hij is niet de enige, heel veel mensen in de wereld geloven nog steeds dat de wereld 'plat'.

Years ago I made a series of black and white drawings of Sparrow&Mouse.  Mouse found an 'everyday' item. Together they philosophized what the object would have served.

A silver heart, a key, glasses, etc. Wonderfully simple subjects. In this case, mouse found a small radarthe.

Sparrow knew the answer; it is part of the earth. The earth revolves around.  Inside the earth is a large machine with many cogs and maybe one has broken.  You have now found it.

Mouse is startled. 'Will the earth slowly stand still. Then we might fall off, or then the sun won't be everywhere. Always the sun here and always dark below!'

In my the second story of Sparrow&Mouse  'The Cube Valley' Uncle Viclar's cube globe is discussed.  He tells that the world consists of a cube, with 6 worlds.  Above the illustration Cube Valley from the story.

In Punky's story I made a variation, 'he thinks the world is flat'.

Gumpie, 'He's not the only one, a lot of people in the world still believe that the world is 'flat'.

Gumpie is met vakantie - Gumpie is on holiday

Tot medio juli is Gumpie met vakantie, voor inspiratie om een mooi schilderij te maken. Onderwerp.. een lieveheersbeestje. Iedereen een fijne vakantie en ik zie u graag weer.

Gompie maakt een proefrit

Voorzichtig stapt Gumpie in een klein kokertje. Deze zat vast aan de krat van mijn de fiets. Gumpie voelde zich gelijk veilig en we zijn eerst de polder in gegaan. Hij genoot en wanneer het gevaarlijk werd, dan dook hij in het kokertje.

Van de zomer gaat hij mee als we naar het strand of bos gaan. Want hij is nog steeds op zoek naar Spotties.

Gumpie steps carefully into a small tube. It was attached to the crate of my bicycle. Gumpie immediately felt safe and we first went into the polder. He enjoyed himself and when it got dangerous, he dived into the tube.
